Diacalderm – 20g Topical Cream
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Diacalderm is a specialized dermatological treatment produced by Diapharm. It is a combination therapy designed primarily for chronic, scaly skin conditions. It contains two active ingredients: Calcipotriol (a derivative of Vitamin D) and Betamethasone (a potent steroid). While the steroid calms inflammation, the Calcipotriol works to slow down the overproduction of skin cells, making it a "gold standard" for managing plaque psoriasis.
Indications:
Psoriasis: Specifically for "Plaque Psoriasis" where the skin is red, thickened, and covered with silvery scales.
Chronic Eczema: Used for very thick, stubborn patches of dermatitis that do not respond to simple steroids.
Scaly Skin Disorders: Helps normalize skin cell growth in conditions involving excessive scaling.
How to Use:
Dosage: Apply to the affected area once daily. In some cases, a doctor may suggest twice daily during the initial "flare" phase.
Application: Apply a thin layer only to the psoriasis plaques. Avoid healthy skin.
Maximum Dose: Do not use more than 15g per day or 100g per week to avoid affecting your body's calcium levels.
Crucial Rules:
Face and Folds: Do not use on the face, genitals, or in skin folds (like armpits). The skin there is too thin and sensitive for this combination.
Sun Exposure: Calcipotriol can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Protect treated areas from direct sun or UV light.
Wash Hands: Always wash your hands thoroughly after application to avoid accidentally getting the cream on your face or in your eyes.
Calcium Levels: Because of the Vitamin D derivative, using too much over very large areas can increase calcium in your blood. Stick to the prescribed amount.
Generic International Brands: Daivobet (Original Reference), Xamiol, Calcipotriol/Betamethasone.
