Concor – 5mg Tablets
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Concor 5mg is the standard strength of Bisoprolol fumarate, produced by Amoun (under license from Merck). While the 2.5mg (COR) version is often used as a starting dose or for specific heart failure protocols, the 5mg dose is the most common therapeutic level for managing active hypertension and chronic heart conditions. It is a "selective" beta-blocker, meaning it focuses primarily on the heart's receptors to keep your rhythm steady and your blood pressure controlled.
Indications:
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): The primary dose for many patients to keep blood pressure within a safe range.
Stable Coronary Artery Disease: Protecting the heart muscle from strain in patients with blocked or narrowed arteries.
Angina Pectoris: Preventing the onset of chest pain by reducing the heart's demand for oxygen.
Tachycardia & Arrhythmia: Slowing down a racing heart or correcting irregular beats (like Atrial Fibrillation).
How to Use:
Dosage: Usually one tablet (5mg) daily in the morning.
Consistency: Take it at the same time every day. It can be taken with or without food, as food does not affect its absorption.
Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it, as it is designed for steady release.
Crucial Rules:
The "No-Quit" Policy: Never stop taking Concor 5mg suddenly. Doing so can cause a "rebound" effect where blood pressure spikes dangerously or a heart attack is triggered. If you need to stop, your doctor will provide a 1–2 week tapering schedule.
Surgical Warning: If you are scheduled for surgery (even dental surgery), tell your doctor or anesthesiologist you are on Concor, as it can interact with certain types of anesthesia.
Diabetes Masking: It can hide the signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), such as a fast heartbeat or tremors. If you are diabetic, monitor your glucose levels more frequently.
Asthma & Circulation: Use with caution if you have a history of asthma or Raynaud’s disease (cold/blue fingers), as beta-blockers can sometimes tighten airways or reduce peripheral blood flow.
Generic International Brands: Zebeta, Bisoprolol, Bisocard, Bisocor.
