Concor AMLO – 5mg/5mg Tablets
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Concor AMLO is a sophisticated combination medication produced by Merck (distributed by Amoun in Egypt). It merges two powerful antihypertensive agents into one pill: Bisoprolol (5mg), a selective beta-blocker, and Amlodipine (5mg), a calcium channel blocker. This "dual action" approach is highly effective for patients whose blood pressure remains high despite using single-ingredient drugs. While Bisoprolol calms the heart rate, Amlodipine works specifically to relax and widen the blood vessels.
Indications:
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Used as a "substitution therapy" for patients who were already taking these two drugs separately.
Stable Coronary Artery Disease: Protecting the heart and improving blood flow in patients with chronic heart issues.
Angina Pectoris: Preventing chest pain by ensuring the heart muscle receives enough oxygen-rich blood.
How to Use:
Dosage: Typically one tablet daily, usually in the morning.
Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food.
Consistency: It works best when taken at the same time every day to maintain a steady level in your blood.
Crucial Rules:
Ankle Swelling: A common side effect of Amlodipine is fluid buildup around the ankles (edema). If this becomes severe or uncomfortable, notify your doctor.
No Sudden Stops: Like all Concor products, stopping abruptly is dangerous. It can cause your heart rate to spike or lead to a heart attack. Always taper off under medical supervision.
Avoid Grapefruit: Grapefruit juice can interact with Amlodipine, potentially making the blood pressure drop too low. It's safest to avoid it while on this medication.
Surgery Warning: Inform your surgeon or dentist that you are on this medication, as it can influence how you respond to certain anesthetics.
Generic International Brands: Concor AM, Bisoprolol/Amlodipine combinations.
