Nevilob – 2.5mg Tablets
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Nevilob 2.5mg is a specialized cardiovascular medication produced by Marcyrl Pharmaceutical Industries. Its active ingredient is Nebivolol, a unique "third-generation" beta-blocker. Unlike older beta-blockers, Nebivolol is highly selective for the heart and also helps the body release nitric oxide, which naturally relaxes and widens the blood vessels. This dual action makes it very effective for lowering blood pressure with fewer side effects on physical performance.
Indications:
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Used to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack.
Chronic Heart Failure: Often prescribed to patients (especially those over 70) to improve the heart's pumping efficiency.
Heart Protection: Helps reduce the workload on the heart muscle in various cardiac conditions.
How to Use:
Dosage: Usually one tablet (2.5mg) daily, preferably at the same time each day.
Starting Dose: The 2.5mg strength is frequently used as a starting dose for elderly patients or those with kidney/liver issues to see how they tolerate the drug.
Administration: Can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Crucial Rules:
The "No-Quit" Policy: Never stop taking Nevilob suddenly. Abruptly stopping can cause severe heart rhythm problems or a sharp spike in blood pressure. Your doctor will provide a tapering schedule.
Erectile Function: Unlike many older beta-blockers, Nebivolol is known to have a lower risk of causing erectile dysfunction due to its nitric oxide-releasing properties.
Diabetes & Asthma: Use with caution. It can mask signs of low blood sugar (like a racing heart) and may slightly affect breathing in patients with severe asthma or COPD.
Surgery: If you are having surgery, tell your doctor or anesthesiologist you are taking Nebivolol, as it can interact with anesthesia.
Generic International Brands: Bystolic (Original Reference), Nebilet, Nebispes.
